Gallaudet University: Summer Internships in Bioinformatics and Molecular Genetics (Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Students), Washington, DC PAID
We are offering up to two summer internship positions for deaf or hard-of-hearing undergraduate students to study the molecular genetics of a common deafness gene, connexin 26. Interns will work with Dr. Derek Braun in our newly constructed laboratory facilities at Gallaudet University. This project combines molecular genetics with physical anthropology and computational statistics and examines the reason for the unusually high number of connexin 26 (also called GJB2) mutations, which altogether are responsible for 30-40% of congenital hearing loss in this country.

Gallaudet University: Summer Internship in Anacostia River Ecosystem Monitoring (Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Students), Washington, DC PAID
We are offering up to two summer internship positions for deaf or hard-of-hearing undergraduate students to study the ecological health of the Anacostia River, a tributary that is part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. Interns will work with Dr. Caroline Solomon in our newly constructed laboratory facilities at Gallaudet University (http://www.gallaudet.edu). Students will be involved in field sampling and conducting lab analyses to help assess the water quality and ecological health of the Anacostia River.
