Management Development Program Qualifications
  • Bachelor's (or MS/MBA) candidates with less than 1 year of full-time work experience
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Superior interpersonal skills & experience in making presentations
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time, permanent basis without additional sponsorship
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Retail Bank is the primary face-to-face point of customer contact and is the chief venue from which we service and sell to our customer base. M&T Bank offers a wide range of products and services to our customers, offering everything from a personal checking account to a Home Equity Line of Credit. A Retail Branch manager is responsible for the management of sales goals, the development of a sales force, as well as building relationships with both Retail and Business customers alike.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an MDP in the Retail Branch Management track you would be exposed to all areas of the Branch banking environment.
You would serve as a proactive team member committed to sales and service. A Retail Branch is a fast paced environment that challenges you to maximize sales opportunities.

After completion of the MDP Program the objective is to have our trainees become Assistant Branch Managers and eventually assume their own branch to manage. Branch Managers are responsible for the expansion and development of existing and new business relationships. In addition, Branch Managers ensure operational efficiency of a branch office by adhering to established operational practices and procedures.
MDP Trainees will be taught the Branch Management role by learning a branch from the ground up, including:
  • Daily customer interaction
  • Learn the fundamentals of the sales process, including profiling customer to determine their financial needs
  • Manage a portfolio of customers, with an emphasis on building a strong relationship with our customers in order to
    retain them
  • Build relationships with local small business owners in an effort to gain their total banking relationship
  • Work with bank officers to develop a commercial loan portfolio
  • Learn and assist with branch operations and security measures
  • Spearhead special projects for the Retail Banking Division
  • Manage Retail Marketing initiatives and developing strategic business/marketing plan
